Applet 8Lazare and Gregor's refined model of ion exchange resins |
The model accounts electrostatic interactions. The ion exchange resin is presented as a series of planar plates parallel to one another and interconnected by elastic springs. The surfaces of plates carry an (uniform) electric charge and, hence, plates repel one another electrostatically, stretching the elastic springs. The liquid between the plates (representing the pore liquid in the actual exchanger) has a surplus charge of opposite sign. |

Charge of the plates can be altered moving the slider. Denser colour of the plates represents denser charge. |
